Foundling Museum

The Foundling Museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, which was established in 1739 by the philanthropist Captain Thomas Coram as 'a hospital for the maintenance and education of exposed and deserted young children', and which continues today as the children's charity Coram. Instrumental in helping Coram realise his vision were the artist, William Hogarth, who encouraged all the leading artists of the day to donate work and the composer, George Frideric Handel, who gave annual benefit concerts of theMessiah. The British Museum: Defining Beauty

Experience the brilliance and diversity of ancient Greek art in this major exhibition focusing on the human body. For centuries the ancient Greeks experimented with ways of representing the human body, both as an object of beauty and a bearer of meaning. The remarkable works of art in the exhibition range from the abstract simplicity of prehistoric figurines to the breathtaking realism in the age of Alexander the Great. These works continued to inspire artists for hundreds of years, giving form to thought and shaping our own perceptions of ourselves. The exhibition features over 120 objects, including some of the most beautiful Greek sculpture to have survived from antiquity. In addition to iconic white marble statues, gaze upon exquisite terracottas, beautiful bronzes and fascinating vases that demonstrate the quality and inventiveness of ancient Greek art. Outstanding objects from the British Museum's important collection will be shown alongside extraordinary loans from other world-class collections. For the first time in decades, a selection of the Parthenon sculptures will be displayed in the context of other great works of Greek art. Tate Modern: Agnes Martin

Agnes Martin is perhaps most recognised for her evocative paintings marked out in subtle pencil grids and pale colour washes. Although restrained, her style underpinned a deep conviction in the emotive and expressive power of art. For Martin, it was spiritual inspiration and not intellect that created great work. 'When I think of art' wrote Martin 'I think of beauty'. Martin lived and worked in New York, becoming a key figure in the male-dominated fields of 1950s and 1960s abstraction. Then in 1967, just as her art was gaining acclaim, Martin abandoned the city and went in search of solitude and silence. For almost two years she travelled across the US and Canada before finally settling in New Mexico as Georgia O'Keeffe, Mark Rothko, DH Lawrence and Edward Hopper had done before her. It was here that Martin returned to painting and created some of her most iconic minimalist works. This is the first retrospective of Martin's work since her death in 2004. Covering the full breadth of her practice this extensive exhibition will reveal Martin's early experiments with different media and geometric shapes tracing her developments into the mesmerising grid canvases that would become her hallmark. The Woman In Black at the Fortune Theatre

Since 1989, over 7 million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most exciting, spooky, gripping and successful theatre events ever staged. Proud and solitary, Eel Marsh House surveys the windswept reaches of the salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway. Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, is summoned to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, the house's sole inhabitant, unaware of the tragic secrets which lie hidden behind the shuttered windows.

It is not until he glimpses a wasted young woman dressed all in black at the funeral, that a creeping sense of unease begins to take hold. This feeling is deepened by the reluctance of the locals to talk of the woman in black - and her terrible purpose. Years later, as an old man, he recounts his experiences to an actor in a desperate attempt to exorcise the ghosts of the past.

The play unfolds around the conversations of these two characters as they act out the solicitor's experiences on Eel Marsh all those years ago.

7 Hammersmith Terrace - Emery Walker's House

7 Hammersmith Terrace is a tall Georgian house on the River Thames. From 1903 to 1933 it was the home of Sir Emery Walker, printer, collector, and mentor to his neighbour William Morris. Contains perfectly preserved Arts & Crafts interior. He furnished the house with wallpaper, textiles and furniture from Morris & Co., as well as ceramics and rugs he collected on his travels throughout Europe. The manner of decoration is very much that found in the homes of his friends, the leaders of the Arts & Crafts movement, William Morris and Philip Webb. Thanks to the efforts of Walker's daughter, the furnishing and decoration of the house has survived almost exactly as it was in his lifetime. As such, it is the only interior of its kind in Britain. Visitors can hear about the stories of Emery and his family and friends, how the house came to be preserved and the importance of the house to the Arts & Crafts movement. Hampton Court Palace

The flamboyant Henry VIII is most associated with this majestic palace, which he extended and developed after acquiring it from Cardinal Wolsey in the 1520s. He lavished money on fabulous tapestries and paintings, housed and fed a huge court and pursued a succession of wives, political power and domination over Rome.

The Tudor buildings that remain are among the most important in existence, but the elegance and romance of the palace owe much to the baroque buildings commissioned by William III and Mary II at the end of the 17th century. The palace is surrounded by formal gardens and acres of parkland with deer that are descendants of the herd once hunted by Henry VIII.

The Ghost Walking Tour of London

The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices-funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic-are specifically designed to appease the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people they were associated with in life, though stories of the phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals have also been recounted.

As one of the great urban centres of the modern world, the chaotic metropolis of London has one of the densest concentrations of paranormal phenomena, and this spooky walking tour brings the sometimes terrifying otherworldliness of this great city to life, or should we say death.....m...mwa...mwah....mwahhahahahahah!

A valid Travelcard/Oystercard is required to take part in the London Ghost Walk as it involves numerous train journeys across London, some of them haunted!

Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

Children love the adventure playground at Battersea Park Children's Zoo, with its sand and water play areas, a real tractor and life-sized fire engine. But there's so much more to explore at Battersea. Kids can have fun helping to feed the farm animals, or spying on the meerkats in the secret lookout tunnel.

There are plenty of amazing animals to see and learn about, including monkeys, snakes, pigs, donkeys, ring tailed lemurs, rabbits, emu, chipmunks, coati, wallabies and chickens. Watch pot-bellied pigs Wiggle and Piggle snuffling in the mud, or listen to the parrots squawk.

With feeding sessions and special events all year round, from Hedgehog Days and Snake Days to Monkey Mayhem and Bug Hunt Bonanzas, there's a world of learning and adventure.
