Top tips for Christmas travel

With planned improvements works taking place over the Christmas period, planning ahead is more important than ever. After all, no one wants to get stuck at home with extra Brussels sprouts. So here are our handy tips to make sure you get where you want to go smoothly and stress-free – ready for slippers on in front of the telly...

Plan ahead

Please check your journey details before your travel, remember, there are no services as usual on 25-26 December, plus planned closures on 27-28 December. Keep up to date with live travel information and stay in the loop with us on Twitter and Facebook.

Reserve your seat

Services are likely to be really busy, but if you're buying an Advance ticket you can reserve a seat online to guarantee your seat. Seat reservations for Off-Peak or Anytime tickets can be made at the station on the day of travel.

Be flexible

Tickets for journeys over the festive period are now on sale, however, certain services will be reduced or not running between the afternoon of 24 December and 28 December. The best way to see availability (and see our best priced tickets) is using our Best Fare Finder. We're being flexible too, if you have an Off-Peak ticket, you can travel at any time (including Peak hours) between midday 23 December to 1 January.

Planned improvement works 25 – 28 December 2014

We'd hate for you to get stuck in four days of major improvement works over Christmas. In addition to the usual closures on 25 and 26 December there will also be planned line closures on 27 and 28 December affecting services in and out of London Euston. Don't be a pudding - please check before you travel.
