and travel off-peak only

Book ahead only: buy in advance
and travel on specific trains
By thinking ahead and booking up to 12 weeks in advance you can save loads. In fact, with Advance tickets*, the earlier you book, the more you're likely to save, and you can still travel during the busiest times of the day. You can buy a First Advance for a set train too, and enjoy all the luxury and complimentary extras of First Class for less. So, you know what they say about the early bird.
*Advance tickets are non-refundable and only valid for travel on the train you purchased your ticket for. Tickets purchased during a sale may be cheaper than Advance tickes.
Fully flexible tickets:
buy anytime and travel anytime
If you'd like the freedom to hop on any train you want, these are the tickets for you. There's no need to plan your day around catching a train, leaving you free to make the most of your time.
Go for First Anytime to get total flexibility plus all those extra touches of luxury and comfort. Ideal for when you're stuck in a meeting that could overrun. Don't worry, you can unwind onboard while we whisk you home once you're done.
Enjoy First Class and all the
benefits that comes with it

Travel off-peak and save money
Travel outside of peak hours to find a cheaper ticket. For example Friday evenings are the most popular time of the week to travel. If you can make your journey on Saturday morning instead, then you'll enjoy quieter trains at some of our best prices. Perfect if you fancy 40 winks in one of our comfy seats.
On the London to Manchester route it can get busy on weekends when there's football on. If you travel when there are no teams from London and Manchester playing each other you'll find cheaper fares.
The quieter times during the week tend to be between 10:30 and 14:30 or after 20:00. Or for really cheap tickets check the earliest and latest trains of the day.
