Top ways to save on train fares
The earlier you book, the more you save
Even booking the day before can give you that ‘bagged a bargain’ feeling. It also guarantees you a seat.
Advance tickets (Standard and First Class) are released up to three months before. But be quick, the serious bargains sell out fast.
Check our Advance Tickets Calendar* to see when the cheapest tickets are available.
*Advance train tickets are non-refundable and only valid for travel on the train you have purchased your ticket for. Tickets purchased during a sale may be cheaper than Advance tickets.
Go Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak for feel-good savings
Weekends are entirely off-peak, but watch out for sporting events, concerts and festivals as trains may be more crowded.
Weekdays tend to be quietest between 10:30 and 14:30 or after 20:00, so you can stretch out without stretching your budget.
