Best bars for a girls’ evening out in Central London
Forget the ‘hygge’ trend of staying in with a snuggly blanket at this time of year, winter in the UK is all about embracing the cold weather and meeting your mates for a glass of prosecco, and dancing to naff tunes in a classy bar. And what better place to do that than in Central London, where both Soho and Covent Garden are a stone’s throw away.
The Blind Pig
Heading over to Soho, you’ll be spoilt for choice for bars to dip into to escape the chill. However, if you’re looking for a speakeasy to start the evening (so you don’t have to scream into your mates’ ears all night) the award-winning Blind Pig is a beautiful bar with low-lighting, leather upholstered chairs and wooden ceiling panels.
If it all sounds a little too subdued, the cocktail menu will help you crack a smile with names such as ‘Slap ’n’ Pickle’ made with gin, brandy and pickle brine, and ‘Dill or No Dill’ made using gin, smashed cucumber, elderflower syrup and of course, dill.
The Long Acre
Situated in Covent Garden, a 5 minute walk from Leicester Square tube station, The Long Acre is a tastefully decked out bar with a buzzing atmosphere and affordable dishes to line your stomach for a big night out. The bar offers 2 for 1 cocktails everyday from 5pm-8pm for ladies on the lookout for a bargain, and if you decide to stick around for an all nighter, it’s also equipped with an underground retro club, so you and your mates can sing along teary eyed with nostalgia to classic tunes like Take That’s ‘Never Forget’.
Cahoots
If you’re coming from outside of London where the tube doesn’t remind you of the daily grind, quirky Cahoots is an underground tube themed bar with vintage decor inspired by the 40s that’ll keep your Instagram feed stocked with fun photos for weeks.
There are themed cocktails to choose from such as the ‘Judy Garland’ served in a cup and saucer, and there’s live entertainment from swing bands to piano sing alongs. You and your friends will certainly have a (ca)hoot! You are allocated 2 hours of drinking time, so do make sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. While you’re at it, book your train to London in advance to save money.
Boston Bar
Boston bar on Greek Street is another photogenic gem with a lounge bar equipped with Art Deco low hung lighting to create a feeling of intimacy, wood panelling and white tiles for tasteful elegance. It has a wide selection of cocktails to choose from, although they are rather pricey at around the £10 mark.
If wine is more your thing, ‘68 Wine Bar’ downstairs from Boston will draw you in with its clever pricing strategy of any bottle of wine for £20, so choose whatever sounds most appetising rather than going straight for the house wine.
There are plenty of bars to choose from when you’re out and about in Central London, so pace yourselves and pick from the best! If a few of you are travelling to London check our group savings page to get the best deal.
