Festival No.6 wrap up

08th October 2015

We love a good party at Virgin Trains, so it was inevitable that we would partner with one of the best festivals in the UK: Festival No.6. Situated in the dreamy, picturesque Welsh village of Portmeirion, revellers were not only spoilt for choice by the variety of music and entertainment on offer but also by the unbeatable location. Portmeirion is almost Disney-esque in its fantasy-land appearance; casting festival goers under a warm, welcoming and seriously chilled spell!

Bands, DJs, musicians and string ensembles all flocked to the festival where they performed in a variety of unique spaces. From the historic Town Hall to the Castell gardens, dance tents overlooking the sandy bay to the picturesque Estuary Stage; festival goers experienced eclectic and visually stunning performances. With such huge names gracing the stage as James Morrison, Mark Ronson, James Bay and Metronomy, the music line-up did not disappoint!

As the official travel partner of Festival No.6, we created our very own party train ‘The Virgin Trains No.6 Express’ to transport festival goers to the venue. In keeping with true Festival No. 6 spirit, this was no ordinary train! We wanted our customers to have fun from the moment they jumped onto the train, so we kept everyone entertained with live music, free cocktails and bucket loads of glitter face paint. Combining the good vibes of Number 6 and our ability to create amazing on-board customer experiences, the No. 6 Express took the pain out of festival travel.

However, the fun did not stop there. In association with Festival No.6, we set up our own music space; ‘The Village Limits‘. Nestled deep inside the Gwyllt Woods, The Village Limits boasted a floating dance floor that bobbed and bounced in the middle of the site’s stunning Chinese Lake to the sounds of guest DJs performing from a specially crafted DJ booth within a pagoda. Crazy P, Blonde Ambition, Low Life, Apexape….legendary DJ’s rocked (literally!) the floating dance floor from dusk until dawn every day with their vibrant and energetic sounds. Fair to say, it took us a good few days to recover after the festival!

Music is only part of the allure of Festival No. 6! Art and Culture is an integral part of the festival, with quirky, hidden gems dotted around the site. A carefully curated collection of intimate readings, exclusive film screenings, stand-up comedy, art trails through the woods, pop up theatre and installations really does make this a weekend like no other.

Alongside the award winning music and culture programme, the assortment of unique and intriguing experiences found within Number 6 is really what makes this event special. At what other festival can you go Paddle Boarding along an estuary (the Virgin Trains team failed miserably with this one!) or take a relaxing dip in the pool (we were better at this)?

And of course, the last thing we need to fill you in on is the FOOD! Champagne and oysters in the Portmeirion Gardens? Michelin star dining at a long table banquet with your fellow festival-goers? And a maze of street food stalls with a spread of fantastic organic and local produce?  It’s quite easy to be tempted just by that!

As 2014 headliner Beck said, “This is the coolest, most surrealist, funkiest, freakiest, best festival in the world”, and so there really is no better advice than to fully immerse yourself in everything that Number 6 has on offer.

Don’t miss out next year and remember to #ArriveAwesome with Virgin Trains, your partner in crime for having a truly magical weekend. We’ve got special travel discounts and deals, as well as our No. 6 Express train!
