Presenting Tilting Cider and Tilting Ale – our bespoke beverages

25th August 2015

Tilting Ale

Whisking you across the country at speeds of up to 125 mph, we have great choice of refreshments to choose from onboard. There’s a variety of tipples to help you relax on your journey and we have even sourced products from regions along our route, so you not only see the countryside but you can taste and smell it as well.

Whatever your reason for travelling with us, if you feel like sitting and sipping, why not try our own, new and exclusive Tilting Ale or Tilting Cider?

Brought to you by Thistly Cross, our new arrival Tilting Cider (4.4% ABV) is bursting with the traditional apple flavour of the British countryside. This cider has been inspired by, and designed to, evoke the spirit of our trains as they speed and tilt on their journey across the country – hence the name Titling Cider!

Thistly Cross’ award winning ciders are hand pressed, using fresh apples from their working farm based in East Lothian, Scotland. Winners of Best Artisan Drink at the Scottish Rural Awards in 2015, we are excited to bring the taste of this special Scottish cider exclusively to you. Tilting Cider is available on all trains to First Class customers as part of the drinks cart service.

Tilting Cider joins forces with our resident Tilting Ale, a pale ale (4.1% ABV) made exclusively for Virgin Trains by Macclesfield’s; Redwillow Brewery, and is available in our onboard shop. You can find out more from owner and brewer at Redwillow, Toby, as he shares his story on how he came to start his own brewery:

You might have gathered by now that we have a real passion for serving products from

local suppliers and we try to feature them on our shop and food menu where ever we can. We love to celebrate the brilliant British produce, home grown, handpicked and lovingly crafted, in locations along our route.

So don’t miss out on your chance to ‘whoosh your senses’ on your next trip, by keeping a look out for this thirst quenching duo! To learn more about Thistly Cross Cider head over to and Redwillow Brewery
