Train tickets can be confusing, but rest assured Virgin Trains has got just the one for you! Find details on Advanced tickets or flexible tickets below, as well as our Season Ticket and Group Travel options.

Advance tickets for cheap train travel

Advance

Book in Advance, right up until an hour before you travel.

Advance

It’s simple: the earlier you book, the cheaper the tickets and the more options you’ll have (with the best availability starting from 24 weeks ahead of travel).

Advance tickets are available for most of our trains. You just need to remember that they tie you to a specific train time – perfect if you can commit to it.

We also know that you’re a busy person, your plans can change, sometimes you’re not ready to commit. Our tickets will always be cheaper the further in advance you book them (unless we’re having a sale, when they’re an absolute steal), but even if you need to panic-buy your tickets on the day you're travelling, we’ll still make sure you get the best price available.

Just purchase your tickets online or through our app and give us at least 60 minutes warning before your train starts its entire journey. That’s just enough time for us to make sure you get a reserved seat.

Flexible tickets

We understand commitment can be a big step. Keep the flexibility to travel whenever you like, and don’t be locked into taking a specific train. Flexible fares keep it casual. Explore your flexible train ticket options below, including Anytime tickets and Off-Peak tickets.

Off-Peak tickets for cheap train travel

Off-Peak

Avoid rush hour with Off-Peak. Cheaper than a full price fare.

Off-Peak

Off-Peak fares are a great way to save money on the full price fare. And if you’re not travelling to a tight deadline, then they’re perfect for you.

You can buy them at any time. Then just travel during the middle of the day, in the evenings, or at weekends. And because we’ve got rid of Peak times on Fridays, our weekends start at 09:26 Friday morning. If you can be flexible with your journey times, an Off-Peak ticket is the one for you.
